The Southern Gulf Islands are nestled between British Columbia’s Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. A short ferry ride leads to these picturesque gems of the Salish Sea, each a world away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Famed for their breathtaking beauty, natural wonders, and peaceful tranquility, the islands inspire creativity and attract artists and artisans who make their homes and present their work to visitors and residents alike.
Representing Galiano, Mayne, North and South Pender, and Saturna Island, the Southern Gulf Islands Arts Council works to develop and enhance the arts in this region. It strives to support all artists and arts organizations by providing opportunities for exposure, networking and professional development. We believe that art enhances life, nurtures communities, and is for all to enjoy so we work to develop supportive environments for art-makers and to make their work accessible to the public.
Individual painters, potters, sculptors, writers, designers, photographers, jewellers, musicians and performers work hard to hone their skills and sell their wares. The Southern Gulf Islands Arts Council strives to provide opportunities to promote established and emerging artists alike by sponsoring art exhibitions, organizing the “floating gallery” display cases on BC Ferries vessels serving the Southern Gulf Islands, hosting this website and other social media platforms, and seeking additional opportunities for the region’s artists through collaboration with other organizations.
We invite you to visit the Southern Gulf Islands and support the creative community who help make each island a unique and facinating place.
